Yorkshire Eyewear are proud sponsors of Knaresborough Air Cadets in this years Bed Race.  A week today and it is The Great Knaresborough Bed Race.  The day will be full of fun and Knaresborough will have it’s most visitors of the year.  Are you going?  We thought we would give you a little information of the events of the day.  Along with decorated beds, there will be plenty of stalls and fun for the kids as well as adults.

The day starts in the Castle Grounds with the decorated beds at 10.00am, when judges will be deciding on the best decorated beds. At 1.00pm the parade begins, leaving the castle grounds, the beds and participants parade down the High Street, through Bond End and into Conyngham Hall grounds ready for the start of the race at 3.00pm.

Knaresborough will be traffic free from 12.30pm until approximately 6.00pm on the following roads, Market Place, High Street, Bond E3nd and all streets leading from them, so beware!  If you need to travel in or through Knaresborough then the through routes of Gracious Street, Park Row, York Place and Aspin Lane will stay fully open. If you need to travel to Knaresborough for the days festivities then a Park and Ride facility has been arranged at Manse Lane.

All the teams have been working hard and practicing for the past few weeks and it was not unusual for the runners with their beds to be speeding round the streets in preparation.  Did I mention the river crossing?  This is one of the highlights of the race when runners with their beds have to cross the river to get tot the finish line.

The weather is due to be kind to the runners with cloud and sunshine in the morning and a little rain in the afternoon, which by this time the runners will very much appreciate.

Here are a couple of photos of the Knaresborough Air Cadets training session crossing the river. Brave Boys!
