Dark green leafy vegetables are rich in the antioxidant lutein. Lutein can help reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).  AMD is the leading cause of vision loss in adults over 65 years of age and older.

Lutein is found in carotenoid-rich foods.  These foods contain a yellow pigment and help gather light pigments or colours that help protect your body’s cells from UV light and oxygen, carotenoids are like sunblock for the cells in your body.

Another benefit to eating lutein-rich foods is that it may lower the risk of cataract formation.
